Microsoft has finally made a decision on the name for its successor cloud storage service SkyDrive to rebrand as OneDrive.
SkyDrive, the software company’s cloud storage service, will soon be known as OneDrive, Microsoft General Manager for Consumer Apps and Services Ryan Gavin announced today. Gavin admits changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn’t easy. We are excited about what is to come, and cannot delay to discuss more.
Gavin also includes that the current users of SkyDrive or SkyDrive Pro is not going to face any issue due to the change. The service will remain functional as you expect and all of your content will be accessible on OneDrive and OneDrive for Business accordingly as the new name is released across the portfolio.
Microsoft is ranking the new OneDrive calling as the one place for documents, photos, and other content.
Microsoft plans to make more announcements on the service in the coming weeks. Anyone interested in receiving email updates about OneDrive Cloud Service can sign up at preview.onedrive.com.
