Automattic has just release a Final Version of its long-awaited open source blogging and publishing platform known as WordPress 3.2 Gershwin. WordPress 3.2 Gershwin is fifteenth major release of WordPress and comes just four months after 3.1. WordPress dedicated this release to noted composer and pianist George Gershwin.
The center of attraction for this release was making WordPress lighter and faster. WordPress 3.2 brings various new features that make WordPress 3.2 more powerful, stylish and impressive. The first thing you will notice in WordPress 3.2 is its refreshed design that mechanically alters the design, typography, and code behind the admin. Secondly, WordPress introduced a new theme Twenty Eleven, which is fully compatible with HTML5 standards.
WordPress 3.2 also drop the support for PHP4, MYSQL4, and legacy browsers like IE6 and starts End-of-life cycle for Internet Explorer 7. So, WordPress requires at least PHP 5.2.4+ and MySQL 5 to run this version. Distraction Free Writing is one of my favorite new feature in this release. All the interface element, widgets and menus fade away to allow you to write and edit your post in a very neat and clean environment, if you press full screen button from the toolbar.
Other new features are Extended Admin Bar, new approve & reply feature in comment moderation, rotating header images, and more efficient term intersection queries. So, check out the Codex page on 3.2 for the full story.
