One of WordPress 2.8 new features is syntax highlighted editor for WordPress files. While the idea was exiting, I must admit I didn’t enjoyed using this new editor.
If you are a theme designer, or just enjoy customizing your existing WordPress theme, it can sometimes be a hassle digging around for the WordPress code you need. We’ve spent a lot of time to collecting a variety of snippets of code and decided to share it on our site.

Users reporting us, that they are missing files, after they automatically updated to WordPress version 2.8 and there were a problem while updating. We checked out the WordPress Trac and found a brand new record, which confirms this: Trac ticket # 10140
On one hand, the upgrade process has to be so far that the files were downloaded and unpacked. If anything goes wrong after these steps (wrong write permissions, etc.), the upgrade process makes a rollback and usually clears the downloaded files without any problems.
So much for theory. The practice shows, however, in exactly this case, because of a bug, previous existing installation files accidentally get deleted too, so the blog will no longer work!
For those of you who love to be on the cutting edge, you’ll be happy to learn that the new version of WordPress 2.8 is now available for download and has packed in a lot more user friendliness than before. According to WordPress – version 2.8 represents a nice fit and finish release for WordPress with improvements to themes, widgets, taxonomies, and overall speed.
The Beta 1 and Beta 2 release of this version happened around this time last month and had been getting a lot of positive response.
With the upcoming version 2.8 of WordPress, the extension to the JavaScript library jQuery Jcrop is implemented. Jcrop allows directly into a web application to crop images.
A first peak shows the site about Jcrop and I’m curious how it will be included in WordPress, currently is no live demo available.
After a new installation of WordPress, you get informed that you are logged in with the default password and this can be a security risk. It is therefore strongly recommended to change the password. The necessary internal links to set a new password are included in this notice.
