Sony Retires the Cassette Walkman After 30 Years

Sony has stop manufacturing and distribution it’s another dignified technology which is the portable and first low-cost music player called “The Cassette Walkman“.

According to IT Media, the last consignment was shipped to Japanese retailers. New Walkmans will no longer available once these units are sold. The AP reports that the sales of the Cassette Walkman have stop in Japan. The Cassette Walkman will still be made by Chinese manufacturers and sold in United Kingdom and United States.

The first generation Walkman was released on July 1, 1979 in Japan. After became a huge success, it sold only 3,000 units in its first month and sold about 200 million units of the Walkman during its 30-year career.

The notification was delivered just one day before of the iPod’s 9th anniversary on October 23. Remember, Sony already retired its 3.5-inch floppy disks in March 2010.
