Microsoft pulls recent security update after reports of system crashes and blue screen of death

Microsoft has withdrawn the latest security update that has been revealed on Tuesday from Windows Update after customers reported a number of random Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).

Late on Friday, Microsoft finally confirmed the issue, and removed update KB2982791 from Windows Update.

As indicated on Microsoft’s support site, the security update had different issues and it could result in Windows not to boot in a few cases.

Blue Screen of Death

The KB2982791 (MS14-045) has a total of 3 known issue which includes the locking down of the Fonts directory of Microsoft Windows and incorrect rendering of Systems Fonts (%windir%\fonts\) on Windows 8, 8.1, 8.1 RT and Server 2012 RT. Attempts to replace, modify, or delete these fonts will be blocked, and a “File in use” alert will be displayed.

Microsoft has provided the step by step guide to uninstall the KB2982791 update from your computer on their support website. The Company has also given the methods to get access to the Fonts directory which will stay locked even after uninstalling the update manually. Customers should follow these instructions, if they are not able to boot the Windows successfully.
