Previously Google’s Blogger platform allowed sexually explicit content and explained that “censoring this content is contrary to a service that bases itself on freedom of expression.”

In an updated to its content policy in support database, Google said that any blogs that continued to display such explicit content will be made private automatically on that date and they can only be viewed by their admin and users to whom they’ve been shared.

Blogs that have been created after 23rd of March 2015, it may remove the blog or consider some other action if it contains sexually explicit content, Google further added in a statement.

However, this does not mean a total ban on nudity. Google states it “may make exceptions based on documentary, educational, artistic, or scientific concerns or where there are other substantial benefits to the public from not taking action on the content.”

Google has not disclosed, the reason regarding the change, which has prompted allegation of censorship from some users. However, it said if you’d rather take your blog down, you can export all your blog posts as an .xml file download the content archive via Google Takeout.
